INTRODUCTION (Reproduced from the book) This booklet presents a set of some thirty Questions posed by members
of Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha during 2009-2010 and answers given by the
concerned minister(s). All queries are related to the welfare and
concerns of senior citizens. Some questions are repeated in both the
houses. Annexure given to some questions are too large (Table format)
and hence omitted – but the URL is given. It is interesting to note the evasive and vague replies of ministers
concerned, displaying their apathy towards senior citizens problems.
One MP asks whether any act has been passed for protecting senior
citizens from abuse after two years of passing Maintenance and Welfare
of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007! It is suggested that Senior Citizens Associations and Federations
should pressurize the MPs known to them to ask many more and more
relevant questions and obtain correct answers. Parliamentary activity
in India is rather dull and uninteresting which should not be the
case. I have given the names and Email addresses of the MPs who have raised
the questions, just to show whom we should thank or condemn. I hope you find the information useful to whatever extent it may be.
